Archive for the “Website” CategoryBy now, you will probably notice that cdrum.com points to this new host. Cool. The new site is a work in progress, so if you see things that are broken, i’ll get to it. Over the next few days, I will be migrating over to a U.S.-based hosting provider. See http://chris.drumgoole.org to see the new site being built. Eventually, I’ll move cdrum.com over to it. It’s that time of year again: a completely random decision to change my hosting provider and design. I will still use WordPress, but i will upgrade to 2.0. Mainly because the new provider, DreamhostHas an auto-installer for WP 2.0. I’ll give it a week or so for this transition to be complete. Be patient. I’ll be creating a radical new design. Boom! For those of you who don’t know, Google released a cool web app called [Google Analytics](http://www.google.com/analytics). As I use [Wordpress](http://www.wordpress.org) to power my site, I decided to look around the net for a plug-in. Yes, Analytics was just released yesterday, but, people are fast. Yes, I have already found two. They are:
– Installation didn’t crap out, looks to be working …but, I am still waiting for Google Analytics to notice that the dang java-script code has been added to my site. Maybe it takes a while…. I’ll write back when it eventually works with some thoughts… Tomorrow morning, I have a 6am conference call with the states. So I am going to have a relatively early night tonight – as opposed to last night when I got home around 1/1:30. Two old friends of mine are in town, one who left China last year to go to school, the other, I went to uni with. They are a couple now – a very small world. My headphone jack on my powerbook is on the frits. Only one side works – the left to be exact. I have tried several headphones, same issue. (they work fine with my iPod). Grrr. I wonder what is next… You may have noticed the “Recently Watched” / “Currently Watching” sections on the left (scroll down…). The formatting is still crap. I’ll get to fixing it one of these days, sorry. I have spent some time modifying the css, but, alas, I am hardly a css wizard. Any special ideas? And remember I posted how Flickr was [broken](http://www.cdrum.com/?p=253) when the servers moved to the US? And how I had to modify the links in the plugin to www-us.flickr…….? Well, I think they got their act together, which means, I had to revert to the unchanged plugin file. No idea how long my gallery was broken…. grr Everyone puts “Currently Reading” pictures/links on their websites, but since I don’t read, I decided to put a “Currently Watching” section. And why stop there?! I also added a “Previously Watched” section too. No real reason for this.. just something else to put on the site… The cover shots link directly to Amazon. The formatting, as of this writing, is crap, so I will be working on that later. Hint: If you don’t have any idea what I am talking about, look at my sidebar down the page… As you have probably guessed, I have modified the photo gallery section. First, it started as php Gallery. When I decided to redo the site, I purchased a Pro account over at www.flickr.com and started uploading. Originally, I just linked to my flickr site. Then my colleague found a nice WordPress plug-in that utilizes flickr’s API. So now, the flickr photo sets appear in my site as albums. Pretty neat. (O.k., I thought it was neat) As always, I welcome comments. Just an FYI — I am working on the new WordPress-enabled site. You can check the progress at [test.cdrum.com](http://test.cdrum.com). I hope to have it complete by the weekend. This will be challenging, as I am also juggling watching my new satellite TV, “Lost”, “Seinfeld Season 4″, and “West Wing Season 5″. **Update:** You are now here. Bingo! Please comment with any formatting errors/issues you find – also odd color choices. Thanks Well, decided to add a Wishlist page. Click [here](http://www.cdrum.com/wishlist/wishlist.php) to access it and make me a happy camper. Since switching my hosting, I noticed my cdrum-at-cdrum.com email account is broken. Use my GMail account. I use GoDaddy for my domain hosting, but the dang “Total DNS” control isn’t as easy to use as it should. It turns out I didn’t set up the MX record properly to enable Email forwarding – I want my cdrum.com mail to forward to my GMail account. I think I fixed it…. |
